General Info - DUI Trucking Accidents

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 619 vehicles involved in fatal crashes in Nevada in 2006, and of those, 43 involved large trucks (defined by the NHTSA as greater than 10,000 pounds, such as a semi or tractor-trailer combination). This means that trucking accidents accounted for seven percent of the fatal accidents - a figure that reflects the national average: eight percent of all vehicles involved in fatal crashes in the U.S. are large trucks.

The independent, nonprofit Insurance Institute for Traffic Safety reported that:

• 15% of truck drivers tested randomly had marijuana in their systems
• 12% had non-prescription stimulants in their systems
• 5% showed prescription stimulants
• 2% tested positive for cocaine
• 1% had alcohol in their bloodstream
